I've recently updated to the latest version of the iOS firmware, and as soon as I connected my phone to my home WiFi, it didn't work. It connects fine, but the WiFi icon never pops up - it's always the 3G one. I also did a speed test, and it seems that my phone connects strictly via 3G, no matter what. I've tried this on another WiFi network, and it's the same thing. What can I do?

Try doing a Hard Reset
Hold the Home button and the Power button until the white Apple logo comes up on screen. Then release the buttons.
REMEMBER! Hold the buttons until you get to the Apple logo. Do not let them go when the "swipe to turn off screen" comes up or when the screen goes black… Wait for the white Apple logo then release the buttons.

Nope. I did it twice, but no luck.
Btw, I also did a reset this morning, and I still have the issue.
Delete your home WIFI and re setup the same WIFI again on the phone. This should allow the phone to fine tune whatever within to match your network setting.
If problem continue, send phone to Apple for WIFI diagnostic.
Turn cellular data off in settings on the iPhone but keep wifi on.
Just because the icon does not appear doesnt actually mean its not connected 🙂
As long as you have a tick next to the network in the iPhone... and the IP address is not 169.254.XXX
This does solve the issue, temporarily. But as soon as I turn Cellular Data on again, it "takes over" instead of the WiFi. This really bugs me, I don't want to keep switching the settings as I come and go... But Thanks, Caseyrose, even though it's not a fix, this does work.
EDIT: I don't know if I checked wrong the first time or what happened, but it doesn't work. With cellular data turned off, I can't even access WiFi. I'm beginning to hate this update.

maybe if you go into the iPhone settings>Wifi> Then find the name of the network>
1) Has it got a tick next to it?
2) If it does and you tap on the blue arrow> Does it have an ip address?
3) If it does what is it>
4) You can "Forget this network" or "renew lease"
How far away from the router are you?
1) Yep.
2) It does.
3) It's 169.254.x.x. Don't know much about IPs, but isn't this the network one?
4) I can, I tried both options.
The router is in the same room as I am. That's not the problem - in the past, I could get a reception from the building's parking lot.
I've also tried resetting my network settings, as soon as I found the problem. Again, didn't work.
The links are all a bit pointless. "Make sure the router works", "turn wifi off and on again". Tried everything.
That IP Address is a self assigned IP Address...
This means.... Its not going to work.
Its not connecting properly to the router,
can any other device in the house connect to the router?
Laptop etc?
You may need to try some router troubleshooting...
I'm currently connected to the router with my laptop, it works fine. The phone worked perfectly right up to the moment I updated to 4.3.3. So my guess is... that's the problem.
I think I have the same issue... HTC phone is sill working well and Iphone after 4.3.3 upg stopped getting ip address on the wifi

There is not much more that i can suggest other than a restore as a new device and test with your home network...
That would confirm a hardware or software issue.

It is, really frustrating. Frankly, a clean restore would really bug me - I've got lots of stuff saved on the phone, and don't want to spend hours repeating the settings. Oh well, I guess this is just something I'm going to have to live with.
You can backup your information and get it back later 🙂 But for testing purposes you need to have nothing on the iPhone except for the wifi settings.
I'm still on 4.1 and this is an issue for me as well. Wifi keeps disconnecting and reconnecting on it's own. Sometimes, even with my phone right beside my router, and full wifi bars, I get the message "must be connected to the internet". And either it will just hang until I quit the app and restart, or after you hit OK on the message, the app will just launch. Very quirky. What bothers me the most is when I'm downloading something and my wifi is on, sometimes it will automatically just switch to 3G. Wasting my data for no reason. I've been told that it's probably the antenna on the iP4. Which apparently has been fixed on the iP5, along with other hardware issues.
I've tried all the tips posted here and other sites, and no luck. The only thing I haven't done is replace my phone. Which more than likely won't solve it, according to Apple Genius Bar. I'm tired of having to restore my phone and reinstall all apps from scratch, so I just won't bother until iP5 comes out. Grin and bear till then. Never had any issues prior to iOS 4. Since the inception of iOS4, for me, I've had one problem after another. At least with 4.1 on the iP4, issues are minimal and bearable. Too apprehensive to update.
