AT&T expands 4G LTE network to 11 more markets
The potential for a 4G-ready iPhone is even stronger now as AT&T expands its LTE network to 11 more markets, including some very heavily populated metropolitan areas.
Those new markets where AT&T 4G LTE customers should be expecting service consist of the New York City metro area, Austin, Chapel Hill, Los Angeles, Oakland, Orlando, Phoenix, Raleigh, San Diego, San Francisco and San Jose.
AT&T launched its LTE network back in September in five cities. The nation's second largest mobile provider is advertising that its 4G LTE deployment to be almost complete by the end of 2013. By comparison, Both Sprint and Verizon are also promising to have LTE deployment completed within the same time frame.
One might wonder then if AT&T can manage to catch-up to these two networks, then perhaps T-Mobile wasn't necessary after all.
However, last June, even AT&T Mobility's own CEO Ralph de la Vega admitted that his company wouldn't catch up with Verizon for at least two years. Verizon's 4G LTE network is already available in 190 cities, covering more than 200 million people nationwide, whereas AT&T's 4G LTE network now covers 26 markets with support for 74 million consumers.
