D-Link's sub-$50 Cloud Router brings media streaming to impoverished street urchins

Streaming your media from your mansion's fine and all, but for those of us without a super-car and a butler, those cloud-based routers can be a little out of reach. Fortunately, D-Link's ensuring no-one will mount a movement to occupy the company's Taipei headquarters by releasing a cloud router that costs just $40. You can access it from the mydlink portal or the iOS and Android apps of the same name and it'll also integrate seamlessly with the cloud-connected cameras that were also announced today. D-Link Brings Comprehensive Cloud Services to Home Networking and Unveils Industry's First Sub-$50 Cloud Router

D-Link Expands Award-Winning Cloud Services to Allow People to View and Manage Home Networks, Cameras and Content Anywhere, Anytime

INTERNATIONAL CES, LAS VEGAS – Jan. 10, 2012 – D-Link today unveiled a portfolio of Cloud Services spanning multiple product lines, giving people an effortless way to view, control and share their digital lives remotely and securely. As part of the company's ongoing initiative, D-Link today also introduced the industry's first sub-$50 Wi-Fi router with advanced cloud services – the new D-Link® Cloud Router (DIR-605L). In addition to bringing cutting-edge, cloud-enabled devices to market, D-Link's new Cloud Services provide remote sharing and management capabilities through its award-winning mydlink™ portal and mydlink apps for iPhone®, iPad® and Android™ devices.

"D-Link's new Cloud Services ensure your home network is in the palm of your hand, wherever you are," said Daniel Kelley, associate vice president of marketing, D-Link North America. "We've built a significant cloud platform offering real-time access to a range of products and features from anywhere you can get an Internet signal via the mydlink portal and apps. From remotely watching a live video feed of your pet via a pan/tilt cloud camera, to monitoring what's going on with your home network, to accessing a movie from a USB thumb drive plugged into the back of a router, we are committed to delivering more power and convenience to consumers than ever before."

Launched in 2009, the mydlink.com portal changed the paradigm for network cameras, allowing users to easily access their video feeds anywhere, at any time, without any complex configuration. D-Link's new Cloud Services and products feature the same remote convenience and ease-of-use, giving consumers access via mydlink.com to a range of networking devices and capabilities in a few simple taps or clicks. It allows users to easily share a home network with friends, family and co-workers via a personal D-Link cloud, share and access content across devices with an easy-to-use app, and remotely control a home network – from determining network users, to how and when the network is used, to e-mail alerts that warn against intrusion attempts.

The D-Link portfolio of cloud offerings brings to market a range of cloud-enabled routers and network cameras offering anytime, anywhere home network access and control:

The Cloud Router (DIR-605L) brings cloud capabilities to the masses, allowing users to utilize the industry-leading mydlink Cloud Services portal and mobile apps to see what websites are being visited in a home network – great for parents – and set alerts for network intrusions from anywhere in the world. Easy to set-up and use, the Cloud Router offers speeds of up to 300 Mbps and four fast Ethernet ports for expanded connectivity.

The D-Link® Cloud Camera 5000 (DCS-5222L) is a versatile surveillance solution for a home or small office offering users remote pan/tilt capabilities to view more of an area, automatic day/night viewing, remote control functionality, and a microSD slot for local recording, allowing consumers to monitor what matters most via a live view through a web browser or mobile device. With remote control of the camera's view to see up to 340 degrees, 720p high-definition video, and enhanced remote security options, the Cloud Camera 5000 provides crisp and clear live HD video streams.

The amplifi™ HD Media Router 3000 (DIR-857) with SharePort Cloud rounds out D-Link's portfolio of cloud products as a high-performance home network solution offering data transfer rates of up to 900 Mbps¹1 with HD Fuel® technology to deliver uninterrupted 1080p HD video streams, lag-free online gaming, and ultra-fast downloads. Its unique SharePort™ Cloud technology allows users to store, share and manage content between people and devices from a single location, as well as access documents, photos, music, and videos using free native apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
