You are invited for yet another double test by Copenhagen Suborbitals Friday December 30. As always, the test is open for members of Copenhagen Suborbitals Support, sponsors or other interested.

The two engines being tested are BIG LES and SAPPHIRE-1.

BIG LES is our most powerful hybrid engine (thrust-wise) and will be our launching vehicle for the Tycho Deep Space capsule in June 2012. During a 4 seconds burn it will be providing about 80kN of thrust capable of “dragging” the 500 kg capsule to altitudes of about 1-2 km as part of our pad abort/parachute test.

As a LES-engine (Launch Escape System) this hybrid rocket has special requirements such as storable propellant (LNOX), high thrust and instant ignition, basically mimicking solid propellant.

SAPPHIRE-1 is our first active guided rocket also to be launched in 2012. For this Dec 30 test it will have two controllable guidance rudders attached providing us with lots of information for further development in the field of active guidance.

Test info:
Date: Friday, Dec 30, 2011
Gates open: 10:30 – 12:30
1st ignition: 1 pM
2nd ignition: 2 PM
Location: Refshaleøen 185, DK-1435 Copenhagen K

The tests will be done in our permanent test area where the rockets will be placed inside Vertical Test Cell-1 & 2. Vertical Test Cell-2 where created just a couple of days ago.
