Google Gives Itself Until February 2013 to Get Motorola Deal Done
Earlier this week, Google said it thought it could close its $12.5 billion Motorola Mobility deal “by the end of 2011 or early 2012.” But just in case, it has a cushion: Merger agreements filed with the Security and Exchange Commission give the two companies until February 15, 2013, to get regulatory clearance. As previously reported, the agreement calls for Google to shell out $2.5 billion if it can’t get the deal done; the search giant will receive a $375 million fee if Motorola ends up taking a better deal than the $40 a share it has already accepted.
