Rumor: Mac OS X Lion launch on June 14

9 to 5 Mac is reporting that Apple is planning to launch OS X Lion on Tuesday, June 14.

According to the site’s sources, Apple Retail had a visual overhaul the night before, with a possible emphasis on software. The site’s also heard that retail levels of Snow Leopard DVDs are slowly dwindling.

Historically, Apple has used WWDC to launch a developer release of the next version of Mac OS X with whatever new goodies are announced during the keynote. Surely, there are things that will end up in Lion that aren’t present in the current developer preview. It takes time for developers and features to get ready for a public release. A week’s time isn’t enough, based on what’s been done for years.

That said, we’ll know tomorrow.
