San Francisco Names New CIO, Who’ll Be in Charge of New Open Data Policy

images

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee named Marc Touitou to be the new chief information officer of the city late last week.

Under Lee, the city at the center of the tech industry has been very amenable to tech companies, attempting to get them to stay in San Francisco, moves that have attracted both fans and critics. Recently passed legislation calls for an open data policy, which many cities already have in place and which will now fall to Touitou to implement.

Chosen after what a press release called an “extensive national search,” Touitou had been CIO of semiconductor company ASML. He replaces former acting CIO Jon Walton, who left earlier this year to take a similar job in San Mateo County.

“As a leader in innovation and open data policies, San Francisco is committed to implementing new approaches to make City government even more transparent, efficient and constituent-focused,” said Lee in a statement. “Marc Touitou, our City’s new Chief Information Officer, is an accomplished change maker, who has proven executive experience in global organizations and shares my commitment to challenge our own City government to be more accountable and engaged, and make San Francisco, the world’s first City 2.0.”
