LINCOLN PARK — After waiting in line at City Hall to tie the knot on 12-12-12,  two newlywed foodies made their first stop at Lincoln Park's newest burger joint.

At 3 p.m. Jonathan Frazier, 38, put in his order for a double griddle burger from Edzo's Burger Shop while Lynn Frazier, 34, ordered up a single with cheddar.

"I just got excited about the opening," Lynn Frazier said of the new Edzo's. "We just got married today so we wanted to go out and have a greasy burger and be together."

The couple had hoped to make it official at 12:12 on Dec. 12, 2012, but missed the mark by less than a half-hour. They became husband and wife at 12:30 p.m.

"We are going to have a fancier dinner tonight, so we just wanted something that was, like, just an American classic," Lynn Frazier said. "A nice burger and a milkshake."

The couple, who live in Des Plaines, split an order of "old fries," which are cooked through twice, and treated themselves to salted caramel milkshakes.

Edzo's, 2218 N. Lincoln Ave., opened Tuesday making it the first Chicago outpost of the much-acclaimed burger joint. The only other location is in Evanston, which has prompted many trips to the near north suburb for its famous burgers and shakes that have landed on many best-of-Chicago lists.

"A lot of people have said, 'Oh my God, I'm glad you're down here. I don't have to drive all the way up to Evanston,'" said Tim Quirk, Edzo's general manager.

While the burgers — which come as a single, double or triple — and shakes steal the show, the upward of nine types of fries at Edzo's are a draw, too. Those varieties include garlic fries, truffle fries, old fries, loaded fries and the very-much-Chicago Taylor Street fries topped with Italian beef gravy and hot and sweet peppers.

The Chicago Reader named Edzo's the best new burger in 2010, the Nutella shake landed in TimeOut Chicago's 100 best eats of 2009 list, and the grass-fed burger made an appearance in the New York Times.

"Ed's got a lot of awards over the past three years, but once again, it comes down to the product and making sure we serve a good product every day," Quirk said.

One special item that the Lincoln Park location isn't selling yet is the lobster fries, which are new at the Evanston location. The fries are topped with fresh lobster cooked in-house and topped with safron aoili and chives, and could possibly be added onto the Lincoln Park menu soon.

"We are going to be doing all kinds of specials here, especially when the markets open up," Quirk said.
