GRAND CROSSING — A South Side Jewel-Osco store that did not receive its final shipment of Twinkies on Tuesday will receive 230 of the popular snacks Wednesday.
The Jewel-Osco store at 7530 S. Stony Island Ave. is scheduled to receive its shipment by 5 p.m., according to Karen May, a spokeswoman for Jewel-Osco.
"There was a mix up yesterday with the shipment and it ended up going to the warehouse instead of the store," May said Wednesday. "But that problem has been rectified and the Twinkies are on their way."
That's good news for Twinkies lovers like Herman Barker, 53, who stayed at the Jewel store on Stony Island Avenue for six hours hoping to buy the cream-filled snacks. The store had advertised that it would be selling Twinkies from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
"I got here at noon because I heard the store was selling them beginning at 2 p.m.," said Barker, who has lived in Grand Crossing for 14 years. "And I am still waiting."
Twinkies were first created in 1930 by the Hostess company at its suburban facility in Schiller Park. The company discontinued Twinkies and other snack brands, such as Ding Dongs and Cupcakes, following its Nov. 16 shutdown and subsequent bankruptcy filing.
