Legos and the Back to the Future films were childhood staples for many who grew up in the 1980s, but now they're officially colliding. Back to the Future is set to become one of Lego's newest licensed products in 2013 thanks to a fan-submitted idea on the Lego Cuusoo site. The project was submitted way back in August of 2011 and met the required 10,000 votes votes of support this past April. Even after gathering these votes, Lego still has to approve any project submitted through Cuusoo — but Back to the Future officially passed that review today, making it the fourth project to do so. The final product is still under development with Universal, but it appears the first offering will be a version of the film's iconic DeLorean time vehicle — with Doc and Marty McFly figures included, we'd expect.

The Back to the Future offering was one of the first submitted to Lego Cuusoo, and we're glad to see it join the ranks of other illustrious products like the Lego Minecraft series from earlier this year. Unfortunately, the proposed Lego Portal project is still under review, while the frightening but excellent Lego Tachikoma ultimately was not chosen for production. While the renders on Lego's site aren't final yet, the final product should be faithful to the beloved movies based on these early visuals. Even better, the project's creators are going to donate the one percent royalty fee they earn from their project being produced to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research.
