At GameStop's refurbishment facility in Grapevine, Texas, wiping personal data off devices is one of the very first tasks workers perform. Still, that didn't stop two children from seeing pornographic images on a Nintendo 3DS this Christmas morning. According to KUSA 9News, Colorado father Mark Giles bought his five-year old son a refurbished Nintendo 3DS system with nine such images, and only discovered them after the child and his older brother brought the pictures to his attention.

It's not the first time porn has slipped through the cracks

It's not the first time porn has slipped though the cracks at GameStop. Last year, a six-year old in Ohio reportedly found porn on a Nintendo DSi handheld, and the company allegedly sold a porn-packed Memory Stick destined for a PlayStation Portable in 2006. Still, reports like these are few and far between. GameStop gave the Giles family a brand-new Nintendo 3DS and some games to help make amends, but the father doesn't seem satisfied with that, choosing to warn other prospective buyers instead. "You can't unsee this," he told KUSA 9News. "He's 5 years old. Maybe when he's 18 or 20, maybe he won't know anything about it, but he's not going to forget about this tomorrow," Giles said.

Perhaps there's more than one reason to open video game systems before you gift them.
