Bodies of mother, 95, and daughter found in Kings Heath

A 95-year-old woman and her 64-year-old daughter have been found dead at a house in Birmingham.

Police and fire crews forced their way into the terrace house in Balaclava Road just before 19:00 GMT on Monday after neighbours said they were concerned for their welfare.

Officers said they were treating the deaths as unexplained.

Forensic science experts are at the scene. Officers said they were trying to trace their next-of-kin.

Det Insp Pete Dunn, of West Midlands Police, said neighbours contacted the force after being concerned that neither woman had been seen for some time.

He said the neighbours had seen the pair's fire was on through the window of the house, but were unable to get an answer at the door.

Mr Dunn urged anyone who may have seen the pair in the past week - or saw anything suspicious in Balaclava Road - to contact them.

Post-mortem tests are being carried out.

Midlands Today reporter Joan Cummins, who was at the scene, said neighbours had seen milk bottles lined up on the doorstep of the house and no-one had come to the door when they had knocked on it.

She said they tapped on the window but were still unable to get any response and so called the police.

It is thought the younger woman was the primary carer for her elderly mother.
