West Coast Main Line: Virgin train passengers stranded

Rail passengers are still experiencing disruption and travel delays on the West Coast Main Line caused by a power failure.

An overhead line failure at Hanslope, near Milton Keynes, affected trains from Wolverhampton to Euston and Euston to Liverpool services.

About 400 morning passengers had to take a replacement diesel service.

Services on Virgin and London Midland trains from Euston to the Midlands will be affected until Tuesday morning.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: "Overhead wire problems are causing delays between Rugby, Northampton and Euston. This is affecting two out of four lines through the area.

"Engineers have been on site since Monday morning and are working to fix the damage so normal service can resume.

"Passengers are advised to check with their train operator or with National Rail Enquiries for the latest travel advice."

A reduced service is running between Northampton and Euston, London Midland trains said.

"Services between Crewe and Euston will only run between Crewe and Rugby," the spokesman added.

Virgin Trains said services between Rugby and London Euston may be delayed by up to 45 minutes until further notice.
