CHICAGO — A second man has been charged in a Logan Square robbery caught on surveillance footage that showed the owner fighting back with a baseball bat.

Keith Owens, 51, of Richfield, Minn., was charged with attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery with a firearm, police said Wednesday.

Bail was set at $750,000 on April 11 for his alleged accomplice, Cornell Mack, 53, on charges of attempted murder.

About 5 p.m. on April 9, Owens and Mack walked into Quizphe's Gifts, 2242 N. Western Ave., and Owens pointed a gun at store owner Luis Quizphe and grabbed his brother-in-law, prosecutors said at Mack's bond hearing.

As Mack was removing cash from the drawer behind the counter, Owens started shooting, hitting the store owner in the thigh and Mack in the stomach, prosecutors said.

Quizphe, despite being shot, could be seen in the video striking the gunman repeatedly with a baseball bat.
