COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — School officials issued a order to "lockdown" Orville T. Bright Elementary School Thursday after shots were fired by a man with a shotgun, prosecutors said.

The alleged shooter, Pena Pitagoras, 22, appeared in Cook County Bond Court Friday charged with unlawful use of a weapon near a school.

Prosecutors said the school, Bright Elementary, was briefly put on lockdown. School officials did not respond to calls regarding the incident.

According to prosecutors, Pitagoras and three other unidentified males were spotted by police fleeing the area of 10700 Calhoun in the South Deering neighborhood midday on Thursday after an alert had been issued for "shots fired," prosecutors said.

They caught up with one of the suspects, a juvenile, who took police to his home in the 10700 block of South Hoxie Street. There, according to court documents, police found a Remington wood rifle with a scope.

According to police reports, when Pitagoras' was taken in to custody, he said something along the lines of "I didn't shoot no rifle and you won't find my prints on no gun."

Cook County Judge Edward Harmening set his bond at $25,000.
