Pedestrian killed near Buckingham Palace named

A 22-year-old pedestrian who died after being hit by two cars near Buckingham Palace in central London has been named by police.

Stacey Cooke, of Sevenoaks, suffered fatal injuries when she was struck by the vehicles in The Mall in the early hours of Friday.

The driver of one car, a blue Mercedes, left the scene, but was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and failing to stop.

He was released on bail on Friday.

The driver of a black Mercedes, which hit the woman first, stopped at the scene.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said a post-mortem examination was started on Saturday and tests would continue in due course.
