Local business owner auctions vandal’s brick for $1,000

Dan Rugh knows how to turn lemons into lemonade. After a vandal threw a brick through the window of his Pittsburgh printing shop, Rugh was stuck with an expensive repair bill. So Rugh decided to auction off the offending brick, raising $1,150 from the community on Tuesday night.

“It’s amazing. This city is super cool. Tons of people offered support,” Rugh told WPXI. “Even different businesses offered into our auction. It’s just amazing,” Rugh said.

Rugh and his co-owner of Commonwealth Press hosted the auction online and said they received more than $1,000 worth of donated merchandise to help in the effort.

The amount raised was nearly three times the cost of the $425 window repair. Rugh and his business partner say they’ll donate the rest to charity.
