Man charged with possession of sub machine gun

A man has been charged with possession of a sub machine gun as part of an investigation by counter-terrorism detectives.
Mohamed Elyasse Taleouine, 20, from London, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with possessing the gun and bullets.
It is alleged that on January 10 he had a Mac-10 style sub machine gun and 24 live 9mm cartridges.
Mr Taleouine was remanded in custody and will be back in court on 22 March.
He was arrested on 10 January by officers investigating the alleged facilitation of travel overseas for terrorism. A second 37-year-old man, who was arrested alongside him, was later released without charge.
The two charges Mr Taleouine faces relate to firearms, not terrorism offences.
Mr Taleouine is alleged to have possessed on 10 January 2013 a converted 9 millimetre calibre blank-firing 'Mac-10' style sub machine gun, contrary to section 5 (1) (aba) of the Firearms Act 1968.
He is also alleged to have possessed on the same day 24 live unfired bulleted 9mm Parabellum calibre cartridges, which is ammunition as defined by section 57 (2) of the Firearms Act 1968, without holding a firearm certificate, or otherwise being authorised to do so, contrary to section 1 (1) (b) of the Firearms Act 1968.
