Huawei's first Windows Phone 8 device is here at CES 2013, the Ascend W1. After a spec leak and pictures back in October, it has been a long time coming for the W1. The 4-inch WVGA device comes equipped with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and a 5-megapixel camera. It's a fairly mid- to low-range device for Windows Phone 8, and Huawei won't say exactly when it will be available.

I got an early look at the W1 today and there's not a lot to report here. Huawei doesn't appear to have bundled any of its own apps with the device and there's no Lenses built-in. Data Sense was enabled on the device, suggesting that this might land on Verizon. Nokia's Lumia 822 and HTC's 8X on Verizon are the only Windows Phone 8 devices with Data Sense enabled with the required operator support. With only 4GB of storage on the W1, it's unlikely that this particular Windows Phone 8 will appeal to those who like to store a number of apps, music, and photos on their devices.
