About 700 homes in south London are still without gas five days after water from a burst main poured into an underground gas main.

About 1,650 properties in Bromley and Orpington lost their gas supply after the incident on 30 December.

At 10:00 GMT on Thursday, Southern Gas Networks said more than 950 customers had been reconnected.

The company said 95,000 litres of water had been removed. Thames Water has apologised to everyone affected.

"Although we are progressing well, there is still a good deal of work to be done," reads a statement on the firm's website.

Residents - who have been offered electric hotplates and heaters - have said they are frustrated by the delay.
