Police investigate Belfast baby girl's sudden death

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a newborn baby girl in east Belfast.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out and the results are being assessed.

It is understood the infant was found in the boot of a car in a street off the Upper Newtownards Road on Tuesday night.

A follow-up police operation involved a forensic examination of the scene.

Later, a vehicle was also taken away.

A police spokesman said inquiries were being made with the baby's family.
