Eton launches a pair of ZoneGuard weather radios to rouse you with disaster warnings (hands-on)

Eton's range of disaster-ready hardware is growing with a pair of ZoneGuard weather alarms that'll keep you informed should the worst threaten to happen. Hooked up to a variety of early-warning systems, traffic light-style LEDs will keep you informed of the danger levels with help from specific-area message encoding data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. In real-life at CES, they're pretty unassuming, and should blend into any quiet corner of your home -- the devices are both wall-mountable. As usual, the company has partnered with the American Red Cross, which will get a share of the profits when you buy a co-branded unit. It'll be available from Q1, with the ZoneGuard priced at $40 and the ZoneGuard Plus costing $80, and while this model comes with a pair of AAA-battery powered warning modules, you can also pick up additional units for $30 a pop.

CES 2013: Etón Corporation Announces ZoneGuard Line of Weather Alert Clock Radios

Two models enable users to stay alert, informed and safe throughout the entire house during emergency weather situations

(Las Vegas, NV - Booth #30860, South Hall 3 - January 8, 2013) – Etón Corporation, a leading creator of high-performance, green-powered consumer products, announces the American Red Cross ZoneGuard weather alert clock radio and American Red Cross ZoneGuard+ weather alert clock radio system. Building upon Etón's successful line of American Red Cross preparedness products, the sleek new ZoneGuard and ZoneGuard+ feature S.A.M.E. (specific area message encoding) technology and an advanced visual and audio alert system. Both products will be making their debut at Etón's booth, #30860 in South Hall 3, during CES 2013.

Knowing that minutes can make all the difference in emergency situations, Etón combined AM/FM clock radio, NOAA weather alerts, S.A.M.E. technology and - for the first time - visual light alerts to create ZoneGuard. The S.A.M.E. system enables users to enter their county code for local pending weather advisories, watches and warnings. Up to 25 individual locations can be programmed into the radio, ensuring users are up-to-date about pending danger in their surrounding area. Integrated LED lights will flash red for warnings, orange for watches and green for advisories issued in one of the set local zones; in conjunction, a loud audio alert will sound.

For those who may want to hear alerts in multiple rooms, Etón is also debuting ZoneGuard+, a S.A.M.E. technology-equipped weather alert clock radio system that features a base station and two wireless, AAA battery-powered remote modules. The ZoneGuard + system enables users to see color-coded alerts (warnings, watches and advisories) on the base unit and hear audio alerts on every unit. The remote modules blast S.A.M.E. audio alerts as the base unit in other rooms of the house simultaneously, so you're always aware throughout your home. ZoneGuard+ Modules are also available for purchase separately to receive alerts in additional rooms. ZoneGuard+ also boasts AM/FM radio, NOAA weather alerts and alarm clock with snooze.

"Our goal at Etón is to educate and help the public be as prepared as possible before a disaster hits," said Esmail Hozour, CEO of Etón Corporation. "With recent storms like Hurricane Sandy again showing us that time is of the essence when severe weather hits, we hope to continue to help families be as prepared and safe as possible in 2013."

Both ZoneGuard and ZoneGuard+ feature an elegant, compact design with stand and wall mount options, making each compatible with any room in the house. With the ability to stay powered via both AC adapter and AA batteries, ZoneGuard and ZoneGuard+ ensure you always have access to potentially life-saving information.

Continuing its long-standing partnership with the American Red Cross, ZoneGuard and ZoneGuard+ help promote the American Red Cross message of preparedness and a portion of each sale will go towards the organization. The Etón and American Red Cross by Etón ZoneGuard and ZoneGuard+ will be available Q1 2013 for MSRP $39.99 (ZoneGuard), $79.99 (ZoneGuard+) and $29.99 (ZoneGuard+ Module).
