CES 2013 Liveblog: Qualcomm CEO keynote

Jacobs led Qualcomm during landmark mobile tech creations—his precise keynote topic.

Twas the night before CES,
hidden from desert sun.
All the techies were listening,
to Qualcomm's number one.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA—Ars coverage of CES 2013 is already underway and the main event hasn't even technically started. Monday, on CES eve, we'll be liveblogging the official preshow keynote featuring Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs. His topic? It's Qualcomm's "Born Mobile" theme, focused on the current role of mobile technology in the world.

Jacobs is uniquely positioned on the subject. He was at the Qualcomm helm while the company had a hand in some major mobile computing landmarks: creating the first smartphone based on Palm OS, developing the Brew system (which enabled over-the-air downloading of applications and the world’s first mobile app store), and pioneering the inclusion of GPS capabilities in mobile phones.

So what's on tap for the Jacobs talk? Qualcomm is mostly a mobile/wireless chip company, so we'd expect some combination of chip news, wireless news (both cellular and Wi-Fi), and maybe even some product info (perhaps some upcoming phones or tablets using Qualcomm's chips). From the video above, I guess Maroon 5 will be there too. But there's only one way to know for sure—and Casey Johnston will be in person to blog us all through it. Join her (and photographer Andrew Cunningham) at 6:30 p.m. PST (see it in your timezone) on Monday to kickstart your week of CES following.

What are you hoping to hear from Qualcomm and Jacobs? Share your thoughts below and let us know the topics to investigate.
