Liquid Image is following up on last year's Ego camera with the Ego Mini. It's the same basic concept: a tiny 1080p camera for shooting extreme sports that uses Wi-Fi to communicate in realtime with an iPhone, iPad, or Android device. When you turn on Wi-Fi on the mini, you connect to it with your phone and it you can directly view images and video, control the camera, and even see a live view of what it's seeing. The camera can support up to a 32GB microsSD card for storage, shoot 12-megapixel stills, or get up to 60fps if you're willing to drop down to 720p video.
The Ego Mini is indeed quite small, measuring 1.6-inches x 0.85-inches x 2.0-inches, but that size comes with more than one price. The first is that it doesn't have an on-camera LCD display or even a battery inside it — you power the camera by running a cord to an external battery. The second is price, a surprisingly high $199.99 for what's essentially a miniaturized version the $149.99 Ego. Still, if you're the kind of person who absolutely needs an action camera that can be mounted inside your motorcycle helmet, perhaps price is no object.
