A retired police officer has been found shot dead with his girlfriend at his home in Wiltshire.

The bodies of Bill Dowling and the woman, who has not been named, were found at Moonrakers estate in Devizes just before 11:00 GMT on Saturday.

Mr Dowling, believed to be in his late 50s, had been with Wiltshire Police for 30 years, retiring about six years ago.

The force said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

A police spokesman described it as "an isolated incident" and said there was "no reason to believe that anyone else is at risk."

He added that next of kin had been informed.
