UK soldier dies at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan

A soldier from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) has died at Camp Bastion in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.

The soldier - of 104 Force Support Battalion, attached to 4 Close Support Battalion - died at the military base in Helmand province on Friday.

His death is believed to have been the result of a non-battle related injury. His next of kin has been informed.

The MoD said it was carrying out "a full investigation" into the incident.

Lt Col Richard Parry, spokesman for Joint Force Support, said: "The condolences of all personnel serving with Joint Force Support are with the soldier's family and friends at this extremely difficult time."

It brings the number of British military deaths since operations began in Afghanistan in 2001 to 431.
