Five stabbed in fight at The Xchange in Luton

Five people were taken to hospital with stab wounds after a fight in a Bedfordshire nightclub.

Police were called to The Xchange in King Street, Luton at about 03:30 GMT on Wednesday.

Officers described the scene as "very confusing", with more than 200 people inside, and said it took nearly an hour to restore order.

Five men aged 23, 22, 20, and two 19-year-olds were wounded, two of whom are in a serious condition.

The 22-year-old man, who had a stomach injury, and a 19-year-old man, who had stab injuries to his back and an arm, had surgery at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

A 19-year-old woman suffered a small cut to her hand.

None of the injuries are said to be life threatening.

An investigation is now under way, and police are appealing for witnesses.

Det Con Mohammed Hussain said: "Officers are keeping an open mind on what started this incident and will be reviewing CCTV in due course."
