A fire at a house in north London where two people were found dead may have been deliberately started, police said.

Detectives said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the blaze at the semi-detached property in Fallow Court Avenue, North Finchley.

A man aged in his 60s and a woman in her early 80s were found dead inside the house by firefighters who took about two hours to put the fire out.

Much of the house was destroyed in the blaze which broke out early on Tuesday.

Six fire engines and more than 35 firefighters tackled the fire from just after 06:00 GMT.

Firefighters found the woman's body in the kitchen and the man's body in a bedroom on the first floor.

Next of kin have been told but formal identification is yet to take place.

Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating.
