Ryan Marven, of Stanford-le-Hope, died after Thailand crash

The parents of a man who died after a minibus crash in Thailand have urged other travellers to stay safe.

Ryan Marven, 30, from Stanford-le-Hope died of a serious head injuries in the crash in Koh Samui in 2011.

Because he was only insured for minor injuries, his family spent more than £30,000 flying him back to Essex, where he died of his injuries.

An inquest held in Chelmsford found he died as a result of a road traffic collision.

Mr Marven had been living in Thailand for about a year before his death.

Speaking after the hearing, Ryan's father and mother, Gary Marven and Karen Hatch, urged other travellers to make sure they get adequate insurance when travelling abroad.

"Somebody has got to say that people need to be aware of these risks," said Mr Marven. "I don't think [Ryan] was aware."

Ms Hatch said: "I don't think we will ever move on, it will always be with us."
