New York marathon decision 'too late'

People living in New York have welcomed a decision to cancel the city's marathon in the wake of the powerful storm which devastated many areas.

About 45,000 people from across the world were due to take part in Sunday's race but the event was cancelled on Friday night amid criticism that it would have hampered the clean-up operation.

BBC News presenter and charity runner Sian Williams, who flew into New York only to discover the marathon had been called off, said it was the right decision but one taken far too late.
