Footpath and viewing point near Olympic Park reopens

A popular footpath used by pedestrians and cyclists and a viewing point which overlooks the Olympic Park in east London have reopened to the public.

The Greenway, which links Hackney Wick to Pudding Mill Lane in Stratford, was closed from May and for the duration of the 2012 Games for security reasons.

The path and a visitor centre made of shipping containers overlooked the VIP entrance and athletes' training area.

Ahead of the Games up to 2,000 people a day joined tours to see the Park.

The path and the visitor centre is located near the Olympic Stadium and the Aquatics Centre.

The centre, which opened in 2009, has received funding from the London Legacy Development Corporation.

It has a viewing platform, a cafe, a space which acts a community hub and a bike hire scheme run by a local charity.

Dennis Hone, chief executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation, said: "Along with the bus tours we launched last month, this is another way for people to see the creation of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

"The View Tube has become one of the most popular places to visit since the Olympic Park has started."
