Rich "Svengoolie" Koz Hospitalized After Heart Attack

Rich Koz, one of Chicago's television treasures, is recovering from a heart attack he suffered over the weekend. According to a memo sent to media from Weigel Broadcasting (parent company for WCIU-TV, THIS and METV), Koz had the heart attack Saturday evening and is currently in a Chicago hospital.

Koz has a history of heart problems and suffered a heart attack in 2002 and, as Robert Feder recounted, was back at work after two months and two angioplasty procedures. In addition to portraying Svengoolie, Koz also produces and hosts WCIU's Three Stooges program, Stoogeapalooza. The multiple Emmy Award winner has been at WCIU since 1995 and picked up the Svengoolie mantle from Jerry Bishop in 1979, when he began appearing as "Son of Svengoolie" on WFLD-TV.
