Thames Estuary airport a 'stupid' idea says Ryanair boss

The chief executive of Ryanair, Michael O'Leary, has described the idea of a hub airport in the Thames Estuary as "stupid" and "hair-brained".

Mr O'Leary told the Commons Transport Select Committee there should instead be extra runways built at three existing airports - Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted.

He also cast doubt on the time it would take to build a new airport claiming it would "probably take the rest of my lifetime".
