Lewisham High Street murder victim, 22, identified

A 22-year-old man who was murdered in Lewisham, south-east London, has been formally identified.

Thierry Christian-Gnanakumar, of Catford, was attacked outside a library in Lewisham High Street at about 21:20 GMT on Saturday.

He was taken by ambulance to hospital suffering serious injuries and died in the early hours of Sunday.

His next of kin have been informed. An inquest will open on Thursday at Southwark Coroner's Court.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as severe blunt force trauma to the head and face.

Det Ch Insp Graeme Gwyn said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the Lewisham High Street area around the time of the incident to contact my team.

"At this early stage we believe the victim was attacked by a group of males outside Lewisham Library.

"If you witnessed this assault, or the events leading up to or immediately after the assault, please call the incident room."
