Karen Otmani guilty of boyfriend's wheelie bin murder

A woman has been found guilty of murdering her boyfriend and keeping his body in a wheelie bin.

Karen Otmani, 42, had denied murdering her on-off lover Shaun Corey.

The Old Bailey heard that after doping his beer, Otmani tied the 42-year-old to her bed before smothering him at her home in Forest Hill, south London, on 4 June last year.

Otmani, of Stanstead Road, then hid the body in a green bin in her bedroom for 11 days, the court heard.

Jurors heard Otmani had been talking about getting rid of Mr Corey and had asked another boyfriend to experiment with some "blue liquid" to see if it would knock him out.

Bobbie Cheema, prosecuting, said: "When she began to speak about killing Mr Corey, he did not take it seriously."

The court heard Mr Corey was heard arguing with Otmani in her bedroom before they were joined by Bernard Beddoe, 60, who Otmani called uncle.

Her new boyfriend Keith Jones rang police after visiting the flat and being told "he's in there", the court heard.

"She said she'd measured her freezer but it was too small and she needed to get another freezer," Miss Cheema said.

The court heard Otmani told officers: "I killed him. He freaked me out and I killed him."

Mr Corey's body was found during a police search.

Otmani, who is also known as Tammy Cameron and Karen Boyce, was remanded in custody for sentencing on Monday.

Beddoe, of Brockley, south-east London, was acquitted of murder and manslaughter.

He was found guilty of assisting an offender and remanded until 7 December for reports.
