Properly Sauced: Dracula's Mary At Hash House A Go Go

2012_10_29_Dracula's.jpg It's almost Halloween. There are plenty of special halloween events going on at restaurants and bars around town, but most of the drinking we've seen over the weekend has been pretty mediocre. Punches dyed orange, attempts at pumpkin-flavored cocktails gone horribly wrong; it's like the drinks are doing a really bad job of dressing up for Halloween. Well, at least one bar has come up with a Halloween drink we're pretty fond of - the Dracula's Mary at Hash House A Go Go.

Hash House is known for its ridiculous B.L.T. Bloody Mary, which is garnished with a strip of bacon, white toast and a tomato wheel - it's pretty much a breakfast appetizer. The Dracula's Mary goes it one better. It's garnished with meat loaf cubes, jalapeno-stuffed olives and a pickle. Who needs dinner?

The official recipe uses their signature bloody mary mix, so you have two choices. You can go in and order one for yourself or sub in your own bloody mary mix, homemade or bottled. No matter what, between the basil and the wine, you'll definitely taste the difference.

Dracula's Mary

Fresh Basil
2 oz Grey Goose Vodka
4 shakes of salt
2 shakes of pepper
1 hit of Tabasco
Red Wine
Bloody Mary Mix

In a large 20-ounce glass, muddle the fresh basil, salt, pepper and tabasco together. Add the vodka, fill with ice. Top with bloody mary mix. If you want to be really fancy, rim the glass with salt.

Pour a splash of red wine on top. Do not stir!

Garnish with rosemary sprig. For the authentic Hash House look, add meat loaf cubes, jalapeno stuffed olives and a pickle.
