Kenyans in Venezuelan envoy Fonseca murder charge

Three Kenyans have been charged with the murder of Venezuela's acting ambassador to Kenya.

The men did not enter a plea in court, as two of them did not have a lawyer, AFP news agency reports.

Olga Fonseca was found strangled to death at her official residence in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, on 27 July.

In August, the embassy's first secretary, Dwight Sagaray, was also charged with her murder. He denies the charges.

Earlier this week, Mr Sagaray was denied bail.

Two Kenyan security guards have also been charged with failing to use any reasonable means to stop the murder.

According to AFP, Ahmed Mutivane Omido, Alex Sifuma Wanyonyi and Moses Kiprotich Walya will be held in custody until they appear again in court on 8 November.

The motive for Ms Fonseca's killing is unclear.

The 57-year-old had started her new role in Nairobi on 15 July.

Kenyan officials said some local staff at the residency, in Nairobi's Runda estate, were unhappy after being sacked by Ms Fonseca.

They had accused her predecessor, Gerardo Carrillo Silva, of sexual harassment - allegations Kenya's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said were being investigated.

Mr Silva left Nairobi earlier in 2012 after six years in the post.

An arrest warrant has been issued for a Kenyan friend of Mr Sagaray's, Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, who went missing after the murder.
