The Twilight Zone looks to be making its way back onto primetime, 53 years after it first aired on CBS. Reports from Deadline and Entertainment Weekly say that the show is in its early stages, and all that is known CBS TV Studios has worked out a deal with Bryan Singer (director of Superman Returns and producer of The Usual Suspects) to develop and executive produce the series. He may also have a hand in directing some episodes, though its worth noting that it may not air on CBS itself.

Should the reboot come to pass, it wouldn't be the first attempt at rekindling the seminal sci-fi anthology. After its original five season run from 1959 to 1964 with Rod Serling, a 1985 remake ran on CBS for two seasons, and another was attempted in 2002. There was also a 1983 movie that attempted (and failed) to capture the magic of the original series. Considering past failures, some devotees may wish they'd leave the name untarnished: without Rod Serling's signature introductions (and cigarette), hope for anything living up to the expectations of classics like "To Serve Man" and "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" may just be unrealistic. It you're not intimate with the charms of the classic sci-fi series, you're just in time for SyFy's yearly all-day marathon of The Twilight Zone on December 31 and January 1, though it's also available on Hulu if you've decided to cut the cord.
