The Chicago Transit Authority has published a free calendar featuring historic photos from the agency’s Flickr pool since 2004. (How many of you knew that?)

Unlike, say, the recently implemented de-crowding plan, CTA put some detail and extended thought into this. The calendar comes with historical footnotes that provide deep back story to each photo, so not only does the calendar serve as an amazing look back at the city’s neon and transit past, it also serves as a brief guide to CTA history.

As we mentioned, it’s free, so it’s worth blowing through saving to your computer, if not blowing through some printer ink. Download the 2013 calendar here and check out the previous calendars here.
