Olympic medal theft: Alex Partridge says police have 'good leads'

An Olympian whose medal was stolen from a London nightclub has said the police are "following up good leads".

London 2012 bronze medals belonging to rower Alex Partridge and hockey player Hannah Macleod were taken in the early hours of Wednesday.

Macleod's medal was posted anonymously to England Hockey's head office at Bisham Abbey in Buckinghamshire.

The 31-year-old rower has appealed for whoever has his medal to send it to his sport's headquarters.

He wrote on Twitter earlier: "London Met are following up good leads so if you have the medal make it easy and please just give it back Gb Rowing 6 Lower Mall Hammersmith."

The thefts happened when the Olympians left their Team GB jackets, containing the medals, unattended at the Mahiki nightclub in Mayfair after the Queen hosted an event at Buckingham Palace for London 2012 athletes.

Partridge's jacket was handed in at a north-west London police station on Thursday, but not the medal.

Macleod, 28, who plays for Leicester Ladies, said it was a "huge relief" her medal had been returned and thanked everyone who had helped publicise the thefts.

She said: "I can't thank you enough. I think all of you played a part in encouraging whoever had my medal to return it."

She also urged whoever had Partridge's medal to return it too.

A 31-year-old man arrested in connection with the investigation has been bailed while inquiries continue.

Police said Macleod's jacket had not been recovered.
