Met Police officer Richard Bent admits theft

A serving Metropolitan police constable has admitted stealing more than £300 in cash and three cheque books.

Richard Bent, 28, who worked in the borough of Westminster, admitted two counts of theft on Wednesday.

He stole £93 in cash belonging to the Met on 13 July, Westminster Magistrates' Court heard.

Bent - England footballer Darren Bent's cousin - was suspended on 14 July and disciplinary proceedings will conclude following sentencing, said the Met.

The second count of theft relates to £250 in cash, one passport, one bank statement and three cheque books.

Bent will be sentenced on 16 October.
