London Stand Up And Sketch Comedy: 16-22 December

Where to find funny this week

Sunday 16 December: Storytellers' Club, obviously, is Christmas themed this month. But not good-Christmas; expect crumby-Christmas tales from Lucy Porter, Sarah Bennetto, Howard Read, Sara Pascoe and James Dowdeswell at the Pleasance (8pm, £10).

Monday 17 December: Adorable sketch group Sheeps host a festive bash at the Union Chapel, with a cracking line-up of guests: Tim Key, Mark Watson, David O'Doherty, Jeremy Lion, Oyster Eyes, Jamie Demetriou, Kieran and Joe and the Horne Section Players. There will be a search for Christmas spirit. It will be found. Go, drink and be merry (7.30pm, £16.50 / £15).

Tuesday 18 December: Alternative Comedy Memorial Society are mounting a pantomime at the Pleasance, hosted by John-Luke Roberts and Thom Tuck and starring Joe Lycett, Colin Hoult, Sara Pascoe, Waen Shepherd, Howard Read and more. Expect the usual leftfield shenanigans plus tinsel (7.30pm, £8).

Wednesday 19 December: See Josie Long do her show Romance and Adventure, which we think might be her best to date, at the Battersea Arts Centre until Friday (7pm, £12 / £10).

Thursday 20 December: Like wordplay? Then get tickets (in advance, this always always sells out) to Pun Run at The Monarch in Camden (8pm, £2.77 adv / £5 on the door if there are any left. There won't be). Bec Hill is your host, with guest punning from Chris Coltrane, Ben Target, Andrea Hubert, Sophie Johnson, Chris Boyd, Frimston & Rowlett, Barnaby Slater, Juliet Stephens and Joshua Ross.

Friday 21 December: The last time Sam Simmons (pictured) was at the Soho Theatre we were slightly terrified and definitely amused. He's back with a new show running until 5 January (9pm, £12.50-£20).

Saturday 22 December: The Boy With Tape on His Face slayed crowds at Edinburgh and is now in London until 5 January (we don't know what it is about 5 January). Catch the silence at the Duchess Theatre (7.30pm, £20-£35).

Book ahead: Sarah Silverman will be at the Bloomsbury Theatre on 9 February – her first London appearance in four years. Tickets are only available through Ticketmaster and Live Nation at £28.50 inc booking fee. They're doing something terribly clever with paperless tickets to avoid re-sales so if you want to go, book now.
