Canterbury man critical after street attack

A 28-year-old man is in a critical condition in a London hospital after an attack in Kent during which he was hit on the back of the head.

Police called to the scene near the Thomas Ingoldsby pub in Burgate, Canterbury found him semi-conscious.

The victim, from Canterbury, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate and later transferred to Kings College Hospital.

Two men, aged 22 and 23, from Canterbury, have been arrested.

Kent Police said the men were arrested after witnesses described seeing two men leaving the scene after the attack at 00:10 GMT on Saturday.

Officers are appealing for any other witnesses to come forward.
