A man has been found stabbed to death on the forecourt of an east London petrol station.

Officers had been called to reports of a stabbing on the Shell garage on Ley Street in Ilford in the early hours of Saturday.

The 29-year-old had suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Murder detectives have made no arrests and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Appealing for witnesses Det Ch Insp John Sandlin said he believed two women in a blue Ford Focus registration number EJ57 OED got out of the car when the altercation was taking place.

"I need to trace those women," he said.

Police believe they know the identity of the man but are awaiting formal identification.
