I Can See Clearly Now Thanks to a Window-Washing Robot

Robots cleaning up the floor is nothing new. Throw a cat on it and laugh until your sides hurt. Robots taking over the irritating and sometimes dangerous task of cleaning your windows, that’s a robot that deserves respect.

The Winbot 7 window-cleaning robot brightens up your home by removing grime from windows. It uses two suction elements to stick to the glass. Slap it on a window, turn it on and it automatically forms a seal. The robot will then measure the glass and determine the most efficient path to follow. When it’s done, it returns to the same spot so you can easily retrieve it.

While using the Winbot on ground-floor windows seems excessive, it’s perfect for anyone living in a multi-story home or apartment. To keep your window washer from falling three stories onto the neighbor’s dog, the little robot features a few safety features, including a two-hour backup battery and a tether that connects to the power cable, limiting how far it can fall.

The ‘bot uses two cloth cleaning pads and a squeegee to leave your windows squeaky clean. The downside is you’ve got to order the cleaning fluid from Ecovacs. Ammonia-based cleaners will ruin the squeegee. Still, that’s better than dangling from your fire escape trying to clean that last bit of goo from the window.

Winbot 7 will be available in the spring for $400.
