Verizon Wireless will be beefing up its mid-range smartphone lineup in the near future with a couple of sequels to devices released last year. As noted by Droid Life, the Samsung Stratosphere II and LG Spectrum 2 were both spotted in the carrier's equipment guide, which provides Verizon's retail staff with details on phones and accessories. We learned that the Stratosphere II was headed to Verizon last week, but this is the first time we have gotten a glimpse at what the phone will look like. The Stratosphere 2 doesn't break the mold set by the original Stratosphere — it still features a roomy, slide-out QWERTY keyboard — but it does appear to be running a fresher version of Samsung's TouchWiz interface on top of Android 4.0.

Similarly, though we haven't yet seen any official images of the LG Spectrum 2, it is expected to be based on the Optimus LTE 2, just like the original Spectrum was based on the Optimus LTE. The Spectrum 2 is rumored to have a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and an HD display, making it more powerful than your average mid-range phone. There is no word on when either of these smartphones will land on Verizon's shelves, but from the looks of things, Big Red is shaping up to have a full roster of new smartphones for the holiday shopping season.
