A fire has ripped through a property on a road dubbed Billionaires' Row in north London.

Three people escaped unharmed from the property in The Bishops Avenue, East Finchley, on Sunday morning.

Eight fire crews were called to tackle the blaze which, London Fire Brigade said, engulfed most of the staircase, first floor and roof.

A total of 40 firefighters took more than two hours to bring the fire under control in the early hours.

Fire crews from Finchley, Barnet, Willesden, Hornsey, West Hampstead, Wembley and Edmonton attended.

The cause of the fire is not known.

The Bishops Avenue is well known for attracting some of the world's wealthiest people, including Indian-born steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal.
