Smartphone Users More Likely to Vote for Obama, Survey Claims

While most polls show the presidential race to be a toss-up between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, a recent survey of smartphone owners finds those with an iPhone or Android device are more likely to support the incumbent.

The survey, sponsored by mobile marketing and advertising firm Velti, finds that 49 percent of Android and iPhone owners would vote for Obama if the election were held today, compared to 31 percent who said they would vote for Romney.

The survey was conducted online last week by Harris Interactive, which polled 800 smartphone owners.

Velti, naturally, is making the case that smartphone owners represent a distinct demographic group worthy of unique outreach efforts.

“We are just beginning to see a more strategic use of this platform, such as Mitt Romney’s iAd campaign, and believe that others will follow suit,” Velti CMO Krishna Subramanian said in a statement.

Just as the atom bomb was the weapon that was supposed to render war obsolete, the Internet seems like capitalism’s ultimate feat of self-destructive genius, an economic doomsday device rendering it impossible for anyone to ever make a profit off anything again. It’s especially hopeless for those whose work is easily digitized and accessed free of charge.
