A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murdering a homeless man who was found dead outside a Liverpool supermarket.

Police believe Kevin Bennett, 53, was sleeping rough when he was attacked at 05:30 BST on 17 August, in Walton.

He was found outside an Iceland store on Walton Road and taken to hospital with critical injuries, but later died.

The teenager is due before Liverpool Magistrates' Court later. Four other teenagers arrested in connection with his death have been released on bail.

The four youths are all from Walton and are aged 14, 15, 16 and 17.

The boy who is charged was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of assault and was questioned on suspicion of murder after Mr Bennett died.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Bennett died as a result of medical complications caused by an assault.
