It looks like the Airfoil drama is just about over. The app, which enables AirPlay support between various devices like PCs and Macs, has returned to the iTunes App Store after being pulled over a week ago. Apple told us that the app violated developer guidelines by using unnamed "non-public APIs," but it has now been clarified that the issue was due to an in-app purchase that enabled the app to receive audio from iTunes or other iOS devices — just like an AirPlay receiver. According to the developer, Rogue Amoeba Software, the feature was not specifically disallowed by the guidelines, instead, Apple simply didn't want to allow such a feature to exist in the App Store. The developer further says that Apple's displeasure with the feature was not made clear to them in two discussions they had with the company before the app was pulled, and that Apple apologized that the process was "poorly handled." If you're looking to download Airfoil Speakers Touch, version 3.1 is available to download now in the App Store.
